Donovan Chan

Creative Director

Born and bred in Singapore and a graduate of the British documentary filmmaking school, Donovan is a co-founder of Beach House Pictures and a leading TV & Film producer, director and showrunner in Asia. As Creative Director of BHP, Donovan strategizes and runs the business with co-founder Jocelyn Little, spearheading development while overseeing a diverse range of productions. Donovan is across all content creation in the company, supervising BHP’s creative teams and it’s pitches, while growing and managing relationships in the company’s key markets in the US, China, Japan, Korea and South-East Asia. Regular partners and clients include top SVOD players such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount and Disney+; and in China, CCTV, Tencent, Bilibili and Youku.

Donovan works with ease between genres, as well as between the scripted and non-scripted worlds, selling to a diverse mix of Asian, US and European studios and platforms. For scripted, he is currently in development on the TV action series CLEOPATRA WONG with Ink Factory (Night Manager), a major drama series with Studiocanal and Canal+, and the action movie TUK TUK DRIVER set in Bangkok, in partnership with major Thai studio Matching Maximise Solutions and Martial Club, the action choreographers and stars from the Oscar winning film EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. For non-scripted, Donovan was the showrunner for the Emmy nominated lifestyle series MIND YOUR MANNERS (Netflix) and executive produced the Top 5 Netflix Korea true crime doc series THE RAINCOAT KILLER, hit science series EVOLVE for Curiosity and Amazon Prime, the highly rated Max and Love Nature fantasy nat hist series OTTER DYNASTY, Insight TV’s food series ORDER UP! with HUDSON YANG and Discovery+ flagship survival franchise ED STAFFORD: FIRST MAN OUT. Donovan co-created, directed and produced the food & adventure series Nomad Chef, starring the late Jock Zonfrillo (MasterChef Australia) for Discovery Channel and was behind the blockbuster Nat Geo & Tencent limited doc series China From Above, which pulled in a record 200+ million views in China.

​Donovan’s latest projects include producing an IMAX feature length documentary and an exciting new car series with Fast & Furious actor Sung Kang. Before founding BHP, Donovan was a long term writer and director for Lonely Planet TV on their series franchise Lonely Planet Six Degrees (Discovery) and Lonely Planet Roads Less Travelled (Nat Geo). Donovan is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and is on the board of Bitsmedia, the tech start up behind Muslim Pro and Qalbox.
